Royal Caribbean Group had an incredible month, unveiling more details on a wave of three new innovative ships– Silversea’s Silver Ray, Celebrity Cruise’s Celebrity Xcel and Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas.
Silver Ray
Silver Ray, the newest ship in the Nova Class, had her naming ceremony on June 12, where Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty and Silversea President Bert Hernandez joined Silver Ray’s Godmother, Dr. Maria Josefina Olascoaga, for the celebrations. The ceremony featured the maritime tradition of the ceremonial bottle break on the ship’s hull alongside live dance performances and renditions of the U.S. and Portuguese national anthems.
Celebrity Xcel
Celebrity Cruises marked the construction of their newest in the award-winning Edge Series, Celebrity Xcel. At the keel laying ceremony, Jason Liberty and Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge joined other executives and leaders at the Chantiers de I’Atlantique shipyard in the maritime tradition of placing newly minted coins on the first piece of steel, bestowing good luck on the ship during both the construction process and future sailings. Celebrity Xcel debuts in November 2025 in the Caribbean, sailing her inaugural season from Fort Lauderdale, on itineraries to the Bahamas, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and St. Maarten.
