Royal Caribbean Group’s Commitment to Sustainability & Conservation: Reforesting the Bahamian Coast
Royal Caribbean Group is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the communities they visit through various sustainability efforts and partnerships with local organizations. This year, the Group has partnered with Waterkeepers Bahamas to restore the mangrove forests that were devastated by Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

Waterkeepers Bahamas has been actively engaging the local community in conservation efforts, encouraging schools and volunteers to nurture young mangroves and replant them along the coast. To date, the organization has restored over 43,000 mangroves and educated more than 400 visitors on the critical role these ecosystems play in protecting the Bahamian environment.

At the same time, as the Group is making strides in developing its first Royal Caribbean Beach Club on Paradise Island off the coast of Nassau on Paradise Island, a comprehensive assessment of the land’s vegetation was completed to determine what could be repurposed for landscaping and what invasive species needed to be removed.

Royal Caribbean pledged to replace invasive flora with healthy native plants as part of their commitment to environmental stewardship. To achieve this, they partnered with local Bahamian environmental consultants to identify, tag, and relocate native trees during the demolition and construction phases.

The tree relocation process is meticulously planned to prioritize the well-being of the trees. Each tree undergoes root and top pruning to maintain balance and reduce shock during relocation. The trees are then carefully transported by barge to New Providence, where they are nurtured in a nursery until they are ready to be returned to their original home. Once the trees are ready, the process is reversed, and the trees are strategically replanted across the site, enhancing the beauty and sustainability of the Beach Club.

By utilizing native Bahamian plants, the Royal Beach Club minimizes the need for irrigation and pesticides, promoting a healthier environment and showcasing The Bahamas’ unique flora to visitors.
These are just a few examples of projects reflecting Royal Caribbean Groups’ commitment to leave a positive impact and energize the beloved communities visited each year.
